Important Notes
It is important to note that this is not a private safari, and more than likely there will be other guests joining you on the game drive vehicles, air-conditioned mini bus tour vehicles as well as during meals.
Please note that sunset game drive times are subject to change and availability on the day. These drives are conducted by a sub-contractor, guided by one of their rangers and in one of their open game drive vehicles. There will most likely be other guests on this drive. Children under 6 years of age are not allowed on open game drive vehicles.
Guests flying out of OR Tambo Airport on the last day are reminded to not book any flights earlier than 19h30 so that we have enough time to get you to the airport. We recommend that you rather stay over in Johannesburg if possible. Since we cannot guarantee our arrival time in Johannesburg on the last day we will not be held responsible for re-imbursements of flight tickets, should we arrive later than expected.
Health & Clothing
Pilanesberg is a Malaria free area.
Itinerary
Day 1: Gauteng – Pilanesberg
An early departure (07h00 – 07h30) allows us to reach the Park around mid-morning.
We enter the Park and start searching for wildlife. Accompanied by a professional Field guide, he/she will gladly divulge information on the park’s amazing diversity of wild- and plant life. We stop for lunch at the cafeteria in the Park (own expense) and continue with our game drive en-route to camp. After checking into your accommodation you have some time to go for a swim, purchase necessary items at the camp’s shop, or simply take a stroll around the camp to stretch your legs before the sunset/night drive.
The open vehicle sunset/night drive gives you an opportunity to spot some of Africa’s elusive, nocturnal animals such as hyena, leopard, owls, nightjars, civet, genet, etc.
Upon your return, your guide has already prepared your evening meal just outside your chalet, under the stars and served by candlelight. Apart from the cooking, your guide is of course available to identify the nocturnal sounds you hear, and possibly entertain you with some amazing experiences encountered over many years of guiding in Africa. Sitting outside on a balmy African night listening to lions roaring in the distance, or the whoop of a hyena is a fantastic experience and one which often brings our guests back to Africa. Wine is served and included in evening meals. Dinner included
Day 2: Pilanesberg – Hartbeespoort dam – Gauteng
Safaris are all about early mornings, getting out there and seeing animals! This morning is no exception and whilst you are leaving the Park today, there is still time for seeing and photographing animals you have not yet seen. After our morning drive, we return to the camp for breakfast, after which we pack up & start our journey back to Gauteng.
We stop en-route at Hartbeespoort Dam, where you can have lunch (own expense) and do some shopping at the many stalls selling arts, crafts and curios. The drive back to Johannesburg takes approximately 3 hours and guests are advised to sleep over in Johannesburg on this night. Outlook Lodge (4*) offers great hospitality in close proximity to the airport. Breakfast included
